Metal Gear 1 Remix
Metal Gear 1 Remix is a project that concerns imbuing true life into the original MSX version of Metal Gear 1.
Any player of the later released Metal Gear saga knows that all of the stories
strongly reflects on the first Metal Gear, which tells concussions between Big
Boss and Solid Snake.
Back in 1987, a Netherlands-based game corporation called Homesoft translated the first Metal Gear 1 into English. But the result was disastrous,
for text space (you know, first Metal Gear was only 128KB in size). The result
could convey none of the original storyline.
The time has passed.
I played Metal Gear 1 again and noticed how deep is the story that runs "between
the lines", and the severe resemblance of it to the Metal
Gear Solid 2, only difference being that Raiden is in place of
young Snake.
In MG1, the messages of people, especially Big Boss, are carefully placed, and
so many of what were explained "sudden illogical urge", can be rationally
explained if you try to.
All messages are carefully translated, loyal to both the conventional military way of saying and also to what the original author may have preferred to express. Thanks go to Jon Taylor for his excellent proofreading.
Since August of 2004, Nekura_Hoka spent hard time to implement the translated
data back into the rom.
Check Metal Gear MSX Japanese
to English Translation Project for the latest status and to download
the IPS patch!
An "IPS patch" is a file that rewrites certain part of other file.
This kind of file is affluently used among the game translators. Find out how
to apply the patch by yourself. I personally used SNESTL12.
Now you can enjoy the story of Snake, Boss, Schneider, Diane, Jennifer, Pet(t)rovich
and Elen starts, this time for real.
Manual
The English version manuals, both NES and MSX versions, differ quite a lot from the manual of the Japanese MSX version. Most of the contents are cut off, and the quality of the translations is lamentable.
This is the exact English translation
of the Japanese original. Read it at your own risk.
Though I implemented a few texts of the EU version manual, but actually translated
almost everything from the scratch because almost all texts were hardly parallel
with the Japanese version.
