Please read "Safety Cautions" and the "Operation Manual" before use and operate under proper instructions.

Cautions Upon Use (Read before practice)

*AddRAM is a micro-integrated instrument. Pay utmost attentions to the following when using.

WARNING

Do Not Use in Machines Except MSX/2/2+ and MSX turbo R

This product is a peripheral solely for MSX standard machines.

Use in any other machines may cause fire or electrocution.

Never Disintegrate or Modify

Do not disintegrate or modify the main body. Also, never try to mend it by yourself. Such acts may cause malfunctions, fire or electrocution.

Do Not Apply Liquids or Alien Object

Do not spill liquids in nor drop alien objects upon internal parts.

When such occurs, cut off the power of MSX immediately. Then remove AddRAM from the cartridge slot of your MSX's and confirm the safety. And access Network Service METHUSELAH or send an e-mail to ask us for the check.

Do Not Use in Excess Heat

Do not use in the environment where excess heat stays (e.g. in narrow corners or ill-ventilated locations). Such use cause overheating of AddRAM and MSX, and may cause unexpected hangup from heat, malfunctions, fire or electrocution.

Do Not Use in Humid, Dusty or Smoky Area

Do not use nor keep in humid, dusty or smoky areas. Such may cause malfunctions, fire or electrocution.

Remove If Non-Used for Long

Remove AddRAM from the cartridge slot for safety when not in use.

Not doing so may cause excess electricity consumption.

Stop Immediately upon Thunderous Weather

Cut the power off of the MSX and pull out the AC plug from source.

Strikes of thunder may cause deaths from fire or electrocution.

Do Not Touch AddRAM with Wet Hands

Do not insert or remove AddRAM with your wet hands. This may cause malfunction.

Notes Upon Use

Do Not Place in High-temperature Locations

Be careful of the following. Disregard may cause malfunction.

Do not use nor keep AddRAM under direct sunlight.

Do not use nor keep AddRAM near heater or stoves.

Do Not Touch the Terminal with Fingers or Metalic Objects (Like Screwdrivers)

Do not accidentally touch terminals, integrated circuits or DRAMs installed on circuit boards in AddRAM. Such may cause malfunction.

Do Not Apply Strong Forces

Do not apply strong forces on AddRAM like hitting with a object or dropping on ground. Such may causes malfunction.

Do Not Harm the Cartridge Case

Do not stamp, bend strongly nor pull apart the cartridge case. Such may cause malfunction.

Do Not Use under Extreme Environmental Status

If you bring AddRAM from cold outdoor into warm indoor, waterdrops may form inside. They may harm internal parts if you continue using in such status, so be careful.

Do Not Insert AddRAM Forcefully

When inserting AddRAM to MSX, make sure to insert firmly to finish and not to apply excessive force to both. Such may cause malfunction.

Cut Off the Power of MSX when Inserting

Always cut off the power of your MSX when inserting or removing AddRAM. Doing so with power on may cause AddRAM and MSX to malfunction.

Do not Remove the Quality Check Sticker Inside AddRAM

Do not remove the sticker attached in inside of the cartridge case of AddRAM. Such may cause you to be unable to receive supports even if within period covered by warrantee.

Do Not Wipe with Benzine or Thinner

If the case or cartridge plug is too dirty, wipe with a cloth soaked with watered neutral washing liquid or alcohol, then finish with a dry cloth.

Never clean with volatile substances like thinner or benzine. They may cause substance to malform and non-conductor layer to peel off, so be careful.

Pull the Power Plug upon Maintenance

For safety purpose, please carry on AddRAM maintenance removed from your MSX. Not doing so may cause malfunction.

There is a warrantee sheet on back of this manual. Fill in as required.

This instrument is a type II Data-Processing Equipment (a data-processing equipment with its use restricted to within living domains, and areas next to such domains) and is NOT complying to VCCI standard (set by Voluntary Control Council for Interference by Data Processing Equipment and Electronic Office Machines) which aims for prevention of microwave troubles in living domains. So, the use of this instrument close to the receivers like radios and televisions may disturb microwave perception. Follow the operation manual instructions for proper handling.

1. How to Connect

Make sure the power of your MSX is turned OFF before connection. And make sure all the power of peripheral connected to MSX are OFF, too.

(1) Insert AddRAM in the cartridge slot of MSX or expansion slot. Adjust the faces of connectors properly and make sure the insertion is complete.

(2) After the installation of the MSX and AddRAM, return the connection with other peripherals to prior status. Then, the use of Expanded Mapper Memory is able.

(3) Turn the power of MSX on to start. If you are using MSX2+ or better, calibrate the 4096KB increase of the main memory at the start. If you are using more than one memories, calibrate that the RAM figure is equal to the total sum of all connected mapper memories. If you are using MSX2, run memory check program (optional) to calibrate the mapper memory.

2. Troubleshooting

Before you ask for repair service, check again using the table below.

Symptom 1: MSX does not recognize any memory of AddRAM cartridge (4096KB)

(1) Is the cartridge insertion complete?

Insert the cartridge properly again.

=> If you have inserted properly but still cannot fix, go to (2).

=> If you cannot insert properly and cannot fix, your MSX or the expansion slot may have problems.

(2) Isn't your cartridge connector dirty?

Clean the cartridge connector with linen sticks soaked with alcohol or similar objects.

=> If you have cleaned it but still cannot fix, go to (3).

(3) Isn't your cartridge connector shaky?

Your cartridge connector is poorly soldered.

Please fix it by re-soldering it or other methods.

=> If you still cannot fix, ask for user support.

Symptom 2: MSX recognize only a portion of AddRAM cartridge

(1) Can you calibrate increase of the main memory in the start screen? (for MSX2 and later)

=> If you cannot calibrate, ask for user support.

=> If you are using MSX2, go to (2).

(2) Does your memory checking program recognize it?

=> If it does not, ask for user support.

=> If it does but you cannot use the memory, it means that your software does not support the expansion mapper memory.

Symptom 3: MSX does not properly retain the contents of AddRAM cartridge memory; changes improperly.

(1) Aren't you using PAUSE key?

If you press PAUSE for a long time (more than a few seconds), AddRAM cannot preserve its memory. Except MSX turboR, in which it can retain even if you press PAUSE.

=> If this does not solve, go to (2).

(2) Aren't you using AddRAM on an expansion slot?

Perhaps the signal delay is exceeding the specification limit.

Ask for user support.

AddRAM Warranty Sheet

This product has passed the rigorous product test conducted through our perfect quality control.

If it fails under the proper use as instructed by "Safety Cautions" and the "Operation Manual", we shall repair it in condition stated in this warranty.

Receive this after you check the name of the retailing club and the date of purchase is being prescribed. Write them by yourself if not.

This warranty sheet will not be issued twice, so please keep it carefully after you have written down your name, address, phone number, BBS which we can contact and/or e-mail address.

Warranty Statements

This warranty sheet covers the AddRAM you have just purchased.

Warranty period is 68 months after your purchase date.

We shall repair free of charge any failure under the proper use.

This warranty shall be valid only within JAPAN.

The charge-free repair is limited to only once in following cases;

Failures and damages were caused by improper modifications and amendments.

Failures and damages were caused by your own mistakes.

Failures and damages were caused through transferring, falls and transportation after your purchase.

Failures and damages were caused by monkeys, poison gases and natural disasters.

Failures and damages were caused by other peripherals connected to your MSX.

This warranty is not filled, is lost, or is not proposed to us.

No charge-free repair is available in following cases;

Phrases and terms in this warranty sheet is illegally altered.

The quality check sticker attached on the back of the circuit board is lost or damaged.

SAFETY CAUTIONS

Please READ before use

Thank you for buying AddRAM of TERRA Network System (T.N.S).

This "Safety Cautions" is meant as a basic knowledge which should be learned before use, and for protection purpose of the machine.

Also, in case the user is young, protector should read this and explain to him or her.

Please read this "Safety Cautions" first, and then use it in proper way as instructed in the "Operation Manual". We would like you to keep the "Safety Cautions" and the "Operation Manual" together with AddRAM and make sure you can refer to them any time.

AddRAM is composed with safety precautions paid, however personal accidents like fire burns and electrocutions may occur by slight mistakes. To prevent accidents beforehand, you must keep the followings.

Keep the Cautions for Safety

Before use, you should read this "Safety Cautions" and the "Operation Manual".

Check Periodically

Check that cartridge has no flaws and its connector is not dirty before use.

Never Use After Malfunction

Once you become aware of ill-executions and damages, ask the nearest user support immediately.

If Abnormality Occurs

- If it emits extraordinary sounds, smells or smokes -

1. Turn the power off as soon as possible.

2. Remove AddRAM from your MSX.

3. Ask the nearest user support immediately.
