Yumemashougn is a totally serious character. Yumemashougun raids Hypnotic City together with swarming dekus, to revenge Sumeragi, and to obliterate both fairyworld and humand world who gave her birth.
Yumemashougun is encased in armor, and her face is also hidden beneath beak-like helm. Her supernatural power enables her to see through the helm.

Yumemashougun's birth was an unworldly incident.
600 years back, after Sumeragi had sent Dreamdiver Ginji into the border between human world and fairy world, Minions of Muscle began invading his land. His instinct told him to gather all Imperial Creatures to solve the matter. He found the Creature Keeper to do the job.
In the future, Dreamdiver Ginji genocides all the fairies, then converts their existence into "reincarnation energy" by translating it through the human world. The reincarnation energy arrives to the 600-years earlier world and fell onto Mujikun the robot, which then got haywire and shot the energy out of its Dream gun. The blast hit and initiated horrible reaction with Creatures and the Keeper. Finding abnormality in the robot Hagane invented, Hagane tried to suppress the reaction which was unlogical as long as her knowledge of science went. She swiftly "contained" the reaction with containment material, then compresseed the containment into a form of an armor. Sumeragi, who at that time had few idea what happened, impinged his divine power into the armor, which was then granted life of its own, as "Rei Lightbringer". Sumeragi lost most of his power by expending in these magical processes.
Sumeragi decided to let Rei to success the throne someday, since he knew he was the last of fairyking dynasty by natural instinct. He decided to keep Rei as Yumeshogun (="dream general") and near him all the time, so he could monitor her anytime. He even gave his huge sword - Nap Sword - to her.

Though Yumemashougun is told that she is a Silver Swallowtail, she does not know existence of Akagane, Hagane or Iroyume, and furthermore, she does not know about existence of Insomniac Floor.
She had longly been in the palace as Yumeshogun the highest military authority, but she once learned that the reason (which she heard from Kamako, whom Sumeragi cunningly informed about. Kamako had enmity toward Yumemashougun even then) Sumeragi kept her near him was because (1) she was his offspring (2) because he wanted to monitor her (3) and she was half-human. Rei was shocked so much she left the palace, and trace of her was lost since.
After that, several months before the date of Hypnotic City Defense War (the game), mass-produced dekus, which were in fact possessed by spirits of fairies flowing from 600 years back era, greeted her, seemingly willing to aid her. She then decided to call herself "Yumemashougun" (demonic drea general) and to revenge Sumeragi.

Yumemashougun speaks intricately and old-fashioned, but her strong emtion is quite visible between words.
Yumemashougun had a very peaceful and beautiful face before, but after turning into Yumemashougun, her face is hideously deformed, with three vertical wrinkles permanentely running her forehead.

Flying power of Yumemashougun has no limit. Rather than flapping her wings, she is floating mid-air by her will alone.
Hagane originally designed armor of Yumemashougun. Encumbrance of armor slows Yumemashougun's moves.
Her Nap Sword, which is well two meters long and has green gems embedded, is more a magical catalyst rather than a fighting weapon. Sumeragi was formerly using Nap Sword, but Rei is in custody of Nap Sword since War of the Minions.

Flesh of Yumemashougun inside her armor is radiating white light. When Yumashougun's flesh is exposed, she recovers physical power (this is why her hit point recovers every turn when she is almost dead in the game) but the white light is harmful to living objects in the fairy world.
She wields a special technique called Bubble Burst which she materializes essence of dream as bubbles then slit them with Nap Sword. This technique is supposed to aid human, but Yumemashougun is using Bubble Burst for vile purpose to kill enemies.

In the game, Yumemashougun kills Hagane, Akagane and Iroyume. Sumeragi (who feigns that Yumemashougun injured him mortally) confesses all secrets about Yumemashougun's birth to her, and because Ginji destroyed the Dreamdiver she cannot exist anymore. Terrified by loss of her identity, Rei Lightbringer falls from Insominac Hall down to the ground. At last moment, the consciousness as ancient Creature Keeper returns in her, but Kamako chops her head a moment later.

From designer :
Yumemashougun was invented in earlier stage of development as the one who stands beside Marqus de Hentai, a simple villain then. In ealierst setting, her hairs were kept inside armor, and her face was visible.
I initially meant kind of saintly image of her, but during development, she turned into "mad with vengenance lust" character. This change also solidified her theme, "dying without salvation". Note her unique "looking down from sky" impression and design of her sword never changed.
While an armored female general as bad guy is commonly seen, including the one in Nausicaa, the one which affected Yumemashougun most was that female general from betraying neutral land Gura, who appears in Fire Emblem of first SNES release Fire Emblem. In fact, I never played the game, but merely saw her in walkthrough book, but she quite impressed me then.

I devised suit armor completely to my like. I am always fascinated with this "tinned human" sort of armor.
I designed her Nap Sword as typical villainish weapon, like the one held by Sephiroth of FF7, but I miss the way Nap Sword is shadowed by awe of Kamako's scythes.
Rei Lightbringer is meant to be a symbolic name.
